Artwork Guidelines

File Type

Sending us correct file types when supplying us artwork for your project will greatly shorten turnaround times and help ensure you have the highest quality elements within your design.

For photos, please only send files with the following extensions:

  • .jpg (or .jpeg)
  • .tif (or .tiff)

We may be able to convert other image types, but additional charges may apply and the overall quality cannot be guaranteed.

For logos and other "line art," please only send the following files:

  • .eps
  • .ai (Adobe Illustrator format)

Any logo that is sent as a .jpg or other flattened image will incur design charges to prepare it for use. If you do not have an .eps version of your logo, please contact the designer of your logo and see if they can send you one.

Do not send any files in Microsoft Publisher format. We cannot work with any file created in Publisher. If your artwork is designed in Publisher please export it as an .eps file or as a high-resolution PDFs.

Color Mode

Most artwork is either in RGB or CMYK. The final output of your project greatly dictates which color mode it needs to be in.

If you are supplying us the raw elements for us to design with (original photos, logos, etc.), do not worry about changing the color mode. We will make the appropriate conversions based on whether the file is being used on the web or in print and make sure the conversion is as accurate as possible.

If you are supplying us a pre-designed piece to be printed with us, please be sure all of your artwork is in CMYK. This will help insure there are no unexpected color shifts in the final print.

If you are supplying us pre-designed web artwork, please be sure all of your art is in RGB. Once again, this will help insure there are no unexpected color shifts on screen.

Resolution

Regardless if the project is for print or the web, we do not accept any imagery that is less than the following: 5" by 7" at 300 dpi (1500 pixels by 2100 pixels).

Lower quality imagery risks pixelation when being worked with. To ensure the greatest quality within your design, please send us the highest resolution images you have.

Also, please only send digital photography or professional negative scans. Do not send scans of printed photos. The quality of a scanned photo is not high enough to be used in most circumstances.

Bleed

Bleed is when the artwork extends beyond the edge of the page to insure no "white borders" appear when trimming. We require a .125" bleed around all edges when submitting any pre-designed work to be printed full-page. Final artwork that is submitted without any bleed will incur additional design charges to make the artwork print-ready.

Text

When supplying us copy to be used in any of your materials, we prefer to have the text sent in a regular text document with basic structural formatting (headings, paragraph breaks, etc. where appropriate). Please send the file either as a Word document or a .txt or .rtf file. This will help us layout the text more quickly and accurately.

Copyrighted Work

At PLS we respect the copyright of other created material. Any photography, artwork, and/or text you send us to be used or reproduced must be original material. If another individual created the material, you must have their expressed permission for it to be used and reproduced. If we suspect that any elements submitted are copyrighted, we may request that written permission be sent to us allowing us to use the material in question.
